REJECTED.

Today I had sketches due for my illustration class. I did sketches of an opera poster for "the cunning little vixen". My teacher told me to do a Mucha like poster so I did a sketch of it. Here it is:

Yeah. Rejected. He said it was boring compared to my other stuff I've done in the past. He told me just to do thumbnails of whatever the heck I wanted and then he'll pick one and I have to do a new sketch and then the final is due next Tuesday. This sounds easy enough, but I have lots of other work for other classes. I should just get over it I guess because everyone else is in a similar boat. So now I'm doing a band poster for Yeasayer. I basically just did a doodle of a girl with two creatures wrapped around her and Ralph liked it. I will like it because I get to draw scales and creature faces. 

Switzerland pieces

So here are the scans of the pieces I did in Switzerland. I also wanted to post my first assignments, but one of them is currently in the conference room which is locked. whoopsie. Oh well, here they are.

This next one is the view from the house I stayed in in Ronco. It came out pretty bad because it was kinda a frisket experiment. I never really use frisket because I find it difficult to use. But if you squint at this it kinda looks right, haha.

In other news, this school week was very difficult. I slept a full night on Tuesday night and then Wednesday and Thursday I went to bed at 4:30am and woke up at 7:30 to go to class. Weeeee. As a result, I fell asleep at 11:30pm last night, woke up at 11:30am and fell back asleep from 1pm until like 3pm. Now I feel like a lazy jerk. Back to work I go! 

2 paintings down

Sorry, I'm bad at updating this thing. So far, we've hung out in Winterthur and for a few days we went to the Peer's house in Lavin. I've only done two complete paintings but I started a new one in Zurich today. I've been sketching a lot, it just takes me so long to do paintings. I'm going to do more though, plus some more when I get home based on memory and pictures. Here are the two paintings I've done so far. They're just crappy photos, I'll scan them when I return home. 

This is the view of Winterthur from the Rose Garden. This doesn't make me too happy because the pen I used was new, and I didn't realize it wasn't water proof because I thought that if it was Copic proof it had to be waterproof. But it ended up smearing a bit. I learned from my mistake though.

This is behind the Peer's house in Lavin. It's the Rhine going under the wooden bridge. This one took a while, but I think it came out okay. 

Today I started a painting of the Lake of Zurich. Here are a few pictures, but not nearly as many as I have taken throughout the entire trip.

Day 2!

I didn't write anything yesterday because I was pretty busy all day. Here's the basic break down of the day:

11:00am Carla woke us up. I think we could've slept alllll day if she hadn't. Then we got ready, ate a lovely breakfast set out by Carla, and decided to go paint in the rose garden at the top of the hill that the Peer house is on.

noon-about 3? Carla, Zach, and I painted and drew while Laura studied. Then Carla had to go record a radio show and the rest of us got kabops for lunch. yummmmm:). then after that i went back up to draw until about 8 and zach stayed up for about an hour until about 5 or 6.

after i came down, we decided to go get a cappuccino in town so Carla, Zach, and I went and had cappuccino and then after that some beer and played cards. Laura and her friend Max joined us later. then we came back to the house about midnight and played ping pong.

I forgot how slow i am because my pen drawing takes foreverrrrrrr. but im going up now to finish. I'll post the finish later on. Bye bye!

Good Ol' Switzerland

So Zach and I are finally here in Switzerland! Yesterday was just a lot of packing and last minute things and then Alexi drove us to the airport. The night before the trip, we didn't sleep. We only slept two hours so that we could sleep on the plane because the flight was at 6:10pm and arrived in Switzerland at 2:30am our time but it was 8:30am here in Switzerland. We didn't really sleep on the plane, it was kind of awful. the flight was packed and we just couldn't get comfortable. Anyway, we're here now. So tired. When we got here Claudia, Laura, and Carla picked us up and we got breakfast on the way back to their house. Then we ate and decided we were tired so Laura, Carla, Zach and I took a nap for a couple hours. Then we woke up, got burgers, played some videogames and showered. I haven't done much artwork except I sketched the airport. I'm just toooo tired. But I have been thinking about all I want to do. Jet lag is blehahahahoeirhaosuehfsdfjhaoushdow. Hopefully tomorrow I will be feeling better.

Preparations

So, I leave in 9 days for Switzerland. Yay! I'm nervous and excited and anxious. The only thing making me nervous is the flight. I'm not scared of flying, but it is a longggg longggg uncomfortable flight. It will be fine, just not very fun. Anyway, I have been preparing. I got all of my art supplies, except I need to get last minute tape, and I have even packed already. I need to go through all of my clothes again and ween some stuff out. I packed for hot and cold weather because the weather in Switzerland is iffy right now, but I think I have too much stuff. I'm a "better to be safe then sorry" kind of packer. Oh well. Anyway, here are some pictures of all my packed up supplies. Observe the beauty. 

Here are my tubes of paint individually wrapped in saran wrap. My paints are always organized by color and are probably the most organized area of my life. I wrapped them because I heard that in checked baggage things can freeze, but I also heard that they explode from cabin pressure when you carry them on. I don't know what I will do yet, but at least they're wrapped and won't explode on each other or any of my other stuff. I'm worried about bringing them in my carry on because they will all have to fit into one one quart baggie, and I just don't know if that's possible. Anyone know what the best idea is? 

Also in the picture is my new expandable... thing. I don't know what its proper name is, but it expands to hold water and then squishes down for easy carrying. Next to it is my pencil case! 

Inside my pencil case are all of my exciting new pens and then my two mechanical pencils, which aren't new but have new lead in them. 

On the other side of my case there are a few pens, including my new fancy gold paint pen, and some erasers and a sharpener and some lead for my pencils. 

Here are my two lovely new palettes. Well, I actually got 3 but Zach is using one for his gouache. I don't need three anyway, that would be silly. But here they are with all of my paint colors squeezed out so that I have some with me just in case I feel like painting on the plane and decide not to carry on my tubes of paint. 

Here is my new moleskin sketchbook especially for the trip. I probably won't completely fill it, but I would like to. 

Anyway, that's all my loot for now. I didn't take a picture of all of my watercolor blocks I bought, but there are multiple sizes. It's very exciting. I probably won't take a picture of my suitcase just yet. I'll wait until it's really packed and ready to go.
